The social media platform said the new verification system was part of its “commitment to transparency”.<br><br>Users who wish to apply will have to be a Twitter Blue subscriber. The subscription service was first rolled out last year, offering additional features such as the ability to edit tweets and customised app icons.<br><br>On Wednesday, Twitter announced Twitter Blue subscribers in Australia and New Zealand would be able to apply for a gold tick badge.<br><br>The company said it would be available in the US and other countries “soon”.<br><br>It is not clear how many accounts have been verified using this method yet.<br><br>After a month-long beta test, an official gold verification process for all users has been rolled out to a subset of subscribers in Australia and New Zealand, and will be extended to the United States soon.<br><br>The process is as follows: In the Twitter Blue settings, a button reading “Get Gold” has been added for subscribers, which brings them to a page of guidelines for applying for a gold badge.<br><br>The page states that a gold tick badge is a “stamp of authenticity”, and that any account can apply for a gold tick in exchange for a fee, “regardless of whether it’s an individual or an organisation”.
