Did anyone else realize how unrelated the content of student’s answers were to what they actually did?

Did anyone else realize how unrelated the content of student’s answers were to what they actually did?

In my lower elementary art class, a girl drew an upside down dog with his head severed and the words *blood blood blood blood* everywhere on the page. When I asked if she wanted me to give it to her parent, she said, “no, it’s not mine, I think maybe it’s an art project from Mrs. [teacher] that she wants me to color because I do that sometimes.” She has no behavioral or emotional issues at all. I have no idea what students think about and how they get their thoughts out and I’m not sure if I want to know.
