I found my daughter 14 years after she went missing. She didn’t come back the same.

I’m posting this on a new account because my family members have access to my main one. I know it’s stupid, but I just need to talk to someone about this.

When I was 25 my wife, young daughter, and I moved into a new home. It was a fixer upper, but it was perfect for us. On the 85th day there my daughter went missing.

One of our neighbors was having a BBQ and we decided to bring the family. My daughter was 3 at the time, so she was easily bored of our conversations. She ended up playing with the other kids in the neighborhood and everything seemed fine and dandy.

We looked for her when it was time to go, but couldn’t find her. We ended up calling the police and the post made it to the front page of reddit. After 67 days the case was closed and we had lost hope. Then, 14 years later, I got a knock on my door.

She didn’t have the same spark in her eye anymore. She looked like a completely different girl, but I knew it was her. She was a woman now, and for some reason she told me she needed my help.

Her name is Amy, and she’s my reason for living. When she disappeared we moved out of that house and never looked back. But with her back in my life, I felt like I needed to know what happened to her. She was hesitant to tell me at first, but she eventually gave in.

She told me that when we moved into the house we disturbed something. She said it was like we had moved into the wrong fairytale. I didn’t know what she meant, but I could tell she was serious. She told me the house was alive, and it took her because she was the fairest of them all.

I was taken aback. I had no idea what she was talking about. I felt as if I had just watched Shrek but she had just watched Shrek 2. She told me the house took her to another dimension, and she was forced to live out a fantasy novel. She said that there were hundreds of versions of her out there, and she was needed here.

I was confused, but I could tell something was up. She didn’t seem right, and I didn’t like the idea of other versions of her. Something in my gut hated the fact that there were more of her and I wasn’t special.

“You know when I was back there right?” I asked.

“When you were back where?”

“When you were back there, you know, the other dimension.”

I could tell she was confused by my phrasing, and she chuckled a little. “You mean when I was back in the story dad?”

“Yeah, that’s what I mean. So you know when I was back there?”

“No,” she said. “Did you find another house?”

I wasn’t sure what she meant, but I knew one thing. This house wasn’t special, and neither was Amy.
