Why do people hate catgirls?

I don't like anime and I don't like catgirls either. But I just don't understand why some people hate catgirls more than anything else. I would get it if those people were to hate anime or fiction or anything but specifically catgirls? It's like they hate something else and take it out on catgirls, it's bizarre.
