Stood up for woman and got fired

Some background: I was in a very male dominated industry where woman do not exist. I’m a 23 year old man and I was here for 4 years. I have gotten used to being around men and seeing this kind of behaviour but this was too much.<br><br>I went out to dinner on Friday with some of my colleagues (all men) and one of my bosses (a 60 year old American man). After we were eating, we asked for the check and the boss said to the waiter “Well I hope the food is free today. It’s my birthday!”. This was weird but I thought he was joking. When the waiter came back he asked if we were ready for the check. The boss said “I need to use the restroom first” and got up. The waiter said okay and said “happy birthday to you” to the boss. After he was gone he said to me “Little bit of entitled people huh?”. I said yeah. He said “Did he really think I was gonna give him a free meal?”. Then the boss came back and I thought he went to the bathroom but I heard the waiter say “Oh I’m sorry sir, you are staying here. Do you need anything extra?” And the boss said “Yeah one more beer please” and he said “Of course”. I was confused and when the boss came I asked what the waiter said. He said “Just another beer dude. Thank you for asking”. I thought he was joking but then the waiter came back with the boss’s beer and then soon after our check. I thought wow what an entitled piece of s**t. Then it hit me, he went to the waiter to tell him to not bring the check and to give him a free beer. I thought wow I can’t let him do this. I asked for the check and since I was the one paying since it was my treat I said I’m gonna pay for everyone. They all said okay and when the check came I paid for it. When I gave it to the waiter I said “Can you tell my boss over there his beer was on my bill”. The waiter said “That piece of s**t?”. I said “Yeah”. He said “I’m gonna make him pay for it. Thank you very much”. Then he took the check from me and ran with it to the boss like he was in a hurry but the boss didn’t get the check. The waiter just put it on the table and ran. The boss didn’t get it and left and when we were leaving he said “Well, that was free”. I said “No it wasn’t. The waiter charged me for your beer.” He said “What?”. I said “You’re an entitled piece of s**t and I wasn’t gonna let you scam this young man out of his money”. He said “You think you’re a hero now?”. I said “I am”. He said “I’m your boss and you can’t talk like that”. I said “You’re not my boss. I quit and I’m suing you for the last 4 years of my pay for underpaying me”. And I walked away. Now I’m unemployed but I feel like I stood up for someone. I’ve never seen the waiter before and I don’t know his name but I hope he’s doing well.
