Hey everyone, I am writing a long blog post on the topic of creative writing and I am struggling to really describe the difference between creative writing and fiction. I want to emphasize that fiction is one aspect of creative writing, but how would you describe what makes fiction fiction and what makes it creative writing?

I don't know, I am very confused. This is what I have so far:

Creative writing is the art of choosing words that best convey a message. As writers we don't constantly think about how every word, every phrase, and every sentence should flow together seamlessly. From poetry, flash fiction, to novels, creative writing is an art form that can take many shapes and sizes. Though fiction is a genre of creative writing, what makes fiction fiction and creative writing creative writing?

To me, fiction is an extension of creative writing. It is a way of conveying a message or a story that is not real, but not necessarily creative.

Talk to me people, is it possible to separate fiction and creative writing?
