My apartment's "new owner" is living my life

I just moved to a new apartment about 6 months ago. It was a fixer-upper but I was excited to make it home. I moved into a different apartment complex a few weeks ago when they built a new building on our block and we all got evicted. I was pretty bummed about having to leave my place sitting there unfinished. The construction was supposed to be of a new shopping center with shops and restaurants, things the area really needed.

Today, a neighbor was out doing yard work and so I was outside too when a young woman in her early 20's came walking by carrying her groceries. I realized that she was living in my old apartment. I was curious and asked her how she liked it. She asked me "Oh do you live here too?" And I said "No, I've been in the area for a few years, I used to live in that one you're heading into" She said "Oh cool it's a great one. We moved in a few months ago. It's perfect for us." I was shocked and asked her if she was sure she was living in that apartment and not a different one, but she pointed out the painting she said she did on the wall and that she was happy to have such a pretty space.

It's strange to think of all the things we did in that apartment. I had a particularly rough life for a few years after an accident and remember staring at the ceiling on most days, feeling hopeless but still realizing that every day I woke up was a new chance to make it different. To see someone now so happy enjoying the space...I just don't know what to feel.

I carved a lot of little things into the walls, like "you will survive this" "you are stronger than you feel" and other uplifting things. I never took pictures or wrote down where they were bc I cared about whoever would live there next and what they might find. When I moved out the whole apartment looked better than it had in the 3 years I lived there and now I think maybe the universe wanted me to live there for a few years, so the place could be a good place, and the next person could find it like that. Just a weird vibe I'm feeling, but am glad whoever moved in has a nice place to live.
