What is the best way to get an internship and eventually a job in software after my junior year of college?

I am a junior majoring in computer science at a non-target school. The college is recognized for my major but doesn’t have many connections to tech companies in the Silicon Valley area. We also have very little resources on campus, even compared to other non-target schools, such as career counseling that caters to software recruiting and resume screening. I also feel that there is very little in terms of mentorship from alumni, which has made many of my classmates struggle to find connections to tech. At the worst point, I can say that my college seemed to offer zero career support for software recruiting outside of general resume assistance and reviewing a generic resume writing guide.

I know people in my classes who have already landed internships from the beginning of the year from a combination of having high grades, meeting a well connected professor who recommended them for a position at a friend’s company, and also just applying to jobs through Indeed or LinkedIn and maybe getting their resume through a screener.

I am worried about getting an internship because all of my other classmates seem to have the advantage of having high grades and being well connected to professors. I struggled in my first few years of college and didn’t think that I would be able to do well in the field. I also didn’t know what kind of career I was looking for and was mostly trying to just get my degree.

I also have no connections outside of college. I don’t want to be dependent on chance and circumstance but so far it seems like so many other people in my field are better connected than me and get so much more out of their college career than I do. I am starting to feel like I will be at a worst case scenario of being in a long period of unemployment in my life if I am unable to find an internship or job. I feel like I have already fallen far behind my classmates in terms of making connections and getting internships. I have also struggled with networking right out of high school and in my early 20s, which has also made me feel far behind my peers. I am starting to feel like I won’t be able to get into the industry in the first place just because of how limited my resources are.

Is there a path to getting an internship or a job in tech for a non-target student graduating from college with average grades and no connections other than applying to as many positions as possible and hoping that a resume screener gives me a chance? I am currently waiting to hear back from many companies I have applied to, but I am worried that they will be very difficult to get into.
