CMV: Anyone who tries to get in front of you in an airport security line in order to use the biometric scanner for additional screening (despite having CLEAR, Global Entry, TSA Pre, etc.) should be banned from flying.

An airport security line is a first-come, first-served\*\* queue, with the occasional exception for people who are handicapped or otherwise need extra care. The fact that you have pre-check or some other status means that you spent extra money in order to bypass the bulk of the security process. But that money does not give you permission to line jump and slow down the entire security process for everyone else in front of you, nor does it give you permission to *front-of-the-line-queue jump* when you could be boarding or sitting at your gate instead of waiting on your turn in line. Say you get a more thorough screening. That doesn't give you a VIP status; it just means you get more screening. If you have a status that says you don't need more screening, then you shouldn't be in the additional screening line anymore than the rest of us should be in the handicapped line\*\*.\*\*

People always talk about how if you are still in front of a handicapped person after they've been allowed to board, then you should sit down and give up your seat. I think we should look at security the same way. If you're still in line after they've let the handicapped folks go, and you're a pre-check or similar customer, then you should give up your spot to everyone else in line.

I don't really care if the person in front of you is waiting for their bin. That's their problem, not yours. If someone's in front of me, I'm not moving forward any more than the handicapped folks or anyone else should be. I don't\*\* care if the person in front of you hasn't gotten their laptop out. If you think you've done it more efficiently, then you can stay behind me because I'm not moving until they're done.

If you're really a frequent flier, then you know the security process better than a tourist does. You should not be slowing down security. You should be speeding it up. You should not be line/bandwagon jumping in front of the rest of us. You should be waiting your turn in line.

And when you do finally get to the front of the line, that's when you should be boarding. We should not have to wait for someone who didn't do the process properly and we should not have to wait for someone to bypass the process. That's why we call it security: it's not about *your* convenience; it's about *our* safety. If you want to bypass the line, then you should bypass the airport.

If your flight is delayed, then that's not my problem. I have a flight to catch, as well. I don't care if I'm going to be sitting at my gate for three hours. I still have to get through security. And the person in front of you still has to get through security. And I'm not moving until they've moved forward.

When you bypass the line, you are not bypassing the line. If you were bypassing the line, then you'd be bypassing security. I don't mean bypassing the line in the pejorative sense; I mean that you are literally not bypassing the line. You are still in the line. You are still waiting at the back of the line. If you want to bypass the line, then buy a helicopter or a drone or something. We're not going to let you bypass the line because of your status any more than we're going to let the handicapped bypass the line. We're all in this line together, so kindly get behind the person in front of me and behind me, where you belong. If you don't like it, then you should have boarded when they let the handicapped folks go.

I'll give you the same courtesy that I'd give to a handicapped person: if you're still in line once I've boarded, then I'll give up my seat to you. But until then, you can wait your turn.

\*\*By "handicapped line", I don't mean that pre-check, global entry, etc. handicap anyone else. I mean that it's a separate line with a separate status. This also doesn't mean that handicapped folks are handicapping anyone else. It means that they're in a separate line with a separate status.\*\*

Edit: It's not about the time spent being scanned. Security doesn't start at the scanner and it doesn't end there, either. If someone in front of you is struggling with the bins, then you should not be trying to get in front of them.
