CMV: The entire idea of a "guilty pleasure" or "shameful pleasure" is bs and the people that play into it are pretentious.

It's the year 2018. If you want to listen to Country or if you want to listen to Metal then guess what? You can listen to it and people can't stop you. If you want to watch Jersey Shore or the Bachelor or whatever then you can do that. Nobody can stop you from doing these things and frankly you can do whatever you want in the confines of your own home.

The idea that you should be ashamed of the media you want to consume is ridiculous. There are plenty of people who watch anime and think it's "weird" or shameful to do so but guess what? There's nothing wrong with it. In fact there is a lot of good stuff that can be found in anime and if you want to watch it you should go for it. There's tons of "nerdy" things that you can do that are all fun and none of them should be considered shameful.

The whole "its so bad but its so good" attitude is a big contributor to this. I think what this comes down to a lot is that people are scared of being judged and don't want to be considered matronly. This makes what they want to do feel shameful even though it shouldn't be.

Essentially I feel like you should do what you want to do without fear of judgment but people often don't do this. I think that's a pretty reasonable perspective. If you can change my view I'd appreciate it.

Edit: I'd like to add that by "the people that play into this" I mean your average consumer, not the critics. Critics can be pretentious but it's their job (and most of them are pretty good at what they do).
