Front sight post broke off during shooting

Shooting my AR-15 today, I had a bunch of rounds go over the target (high). I checked my sights, and realized my front sight post snapped off at the base. I was shooting 556, but I was also shooting at a target 100 yards away, which for me is "long range". This never happened to me before, and I am not aware of dropping the rifle or anything that would cause the sight to fail like that. I've never been a fan of a plastic sight post anyway. I am going to replace it, but I was just wondering what are the best metal front sight posts. I see a bunch on amazon, but would appreciate advice on ones that are reliable and sturdy.<br><br>What are people's thoughts on fiber optic front sights? Do they perform well in a variety of lighting conditions (especially bright sunlight)?
