Boy, I just heard something (literally) crazy

I'm currently living in (what's supposed to be) a midrange apartment (it's not) in Philly. Over the summer, we heard murmurs that they were selling off some of our units to a private developer who was planning on fixing them up and leasing them as rentals, only for more than double what we pay. We also heard that they were bringing a bunch of new units online.

Anyway, I was outside smoking a cigarette a little while ago, and some of the maintenance staff were chatting in hushed tones. One of them said they need to start clearing out units for the contractor because they've got a lot of work lined up for the next ten years. I could tell they were trying to keep the conversation private, so I didn't pry.

Isn't that crazy, though - ten years? The building is 26 years old.
