Each year around 21 people on flights to the US are deemed medically inadmissible and are banned from the US for 100 years. On arrival, those who are deemed unhealthy for whatever reason are flown back to their home country by the US Immigration Office, where they are forbidden from entering the US for 100 years. Many years ago, an average of only 10 people were banned per year, but with the growing number of immigrants this has increased significantly. On average, only three people per year succeed in having their ban on entry lifted. In 2020, for example, 61 people were refused entry to the US, of whom only 5 were eventually allowed to enter. Despite the strict rules, there are some exceptions, for example for people with cancer. In that case, one is forbidden to enter the country without medical insurance. In that case, one is granted entry with a special permit.

Personally, I feel that such a strict ban is very unfair. All these people have dreamed of their own new life for years, only to have their dream shattered in an instant.
