So I (40m) took my niece (24f) to court today and won. She has to pay me back the money and interest. I just got back and I'm feeling pretty good. My brother called me and chewed me out, saying that it's ridiculous that I took his daughter to court and that she's unemployed and probably won't be able to pay me back. He said that I should have just written it off and moved on. I told him it's the principle of the matter, she steal from me once, she'll steal again.

This all started on thanksgiving when I let her wear my coat to the Birthday/Thanksgiving party at my brother's place. I bought it used from a second hand store for $70 and restored it by hand. It looks really good now and she was eyeing it for a while and she asked me if she could wear it since she forgot her coat, I told her no but my wife said that it was only for the night so I let her take it. I asked for it back the next day and she told me she's still wearing it so I will get it back tomorrow. I never got it back. She wouldn't answer my call and texts and when I asked my brother he said that she doesn't have it and if I kept calling/texting her he'd call the police on me for harassment. I reported it to the police along with the store receipt, the before and after photos and a video of the restoration, they saw it as a civil matter and sent me a lawyer that got the court date. She didn't show today and the judge gave her a continuance but I think she house is empty as I drove past it yesterday and saw the door wide open.

I'm in the right here right?
