^tldr: I am currently a Senior Software Engineer that has done a ton of tech interviews this week. Just got an offer, and wanted to know the downsides of this role/career path/industry.

I've had 4 interviews this week (Microsoft, Service Now, LinkedIn, Amazon) and I have an offer from Amazon. Just wanted to get some transparency on what this role will be like. I've been in software for 12 years, so I'm pretty sure I don't have to answer questions like "What is software engineering?" to be able to trust your answers.

**I am currently a senior software engineer in consumer fintech**, with a 14% salary increase over last year and a 10% increase over the last 5 years as a result of internal engineering hires becoming more expensive. I'm on the microservices architecture team, which is a great role for me as I get to learn the ins and outs of the company's various services and play a key part in our technical direction. I mentor engineers, not because of a structural lack of a role, but because I genuinely enjoy teaching and thoughtfully structuring my responses to help my younger peers.

I've done a bunch of tech interviews to learn more about tech in general and to see how far I've come in my career thus far. I started doing interviews here and there months ago until I eventually found my footing and the past week has been my busiest, with four interviews across different companies and a pending offer from Amazon.

The biggest gap that I think exists in my understanding is corporate tech and how the day-to-day is across the industry. I've read a lot of posts on r/softwareengineering and technical blog posts like "Why I left Amazon" and "Why I left LinkedIn for the second time." In some roles, I feel like I would fit right in. In others, I'd be miserable. That's why I'm going to see what I can learn from you, the people that have been at these companies for years.

**Amazon Software Engineer**

I've been offered a role at Amazon as a Senior SWE with a 40% increase in salary and a 50% increase in RSUs (or more, I'm actively negotiating) and was wondering what are the downsides of working at Amazon?

I think I can learn a lot about the company and its technology given the scope and scale of the work that they do and resonate with some of the company's core values like "Learn and be curious." That being said, the back-and-forth between managers I've seen during the hiring process has worried me. My offer letter still doesn't have all of the details that I want to know, and my manager has said that I need to wait until my onboarding. One of the managers has randomly stopped responding to my messages while the other manager has been very nice to me in our communication. I could be wrong, but it feels like the two managers have different ideas about how things should go.

I'd love to hear about your experiences in this role, or in a similar role, at Amazon or in another company. What are the downsides? What are the benefits? Would this career move be a good next step for my career?

Thanks in advance for your input. I appreciate your time and experience.
