My friend has always been anti-gun/anti gun owner. It's a left-right thing for him. He had an incident about 10 days ago that changed his mind.

He's about 35 years old. We've been friends since childhood and I've known that he was always "anti-gun" or at least "anti gun-owner". He is of the mindset that people shouldn't carry guns, people shouldn't own guns, etc. He generally went on tirades about how disgusting it was that the right could be so pro gun when there were so many gun deaths and school shootings, etc.

About 10 days ago, he was at a grocery store. There was a couple arguing (male/female) near him. Apparently they were a couple, boyfriend/girlfriend, and apparently the boyfriend had an affair on her. The boyfriend had remade his relationship with her after he ended the affair with the other woman. She ended up coming to the store and shooting the boyfriend and girlfriend, then herself.

None of them died, but the boyfriend and other woman are in critical condition.

So recently my friend and I are talking. I bring up the incident when I heard the story a few days after it happened. He says:

>
*When that happened, It scared the shit out of me. I had never been so scared in my life. Once I realized what was happening I hid behind a shelf. The only thought in my mind was to get out alive. I started thinking about the shooting that happened at T-Mobile a year ago. It made me realize you never really know when something like that is going to happen. Anyone can go at any time.*

>
*I had never thought about that before. But if I had a gun that day, I could have potentially saved a life.*

He then went on to say that the whole episode really changed his perspective, and he's sort of changed his mind about guns. He said, "I don't know if I would ever carry a gun, but I think it's reasonable to allow people to carry if they choose to. I don't think guns should be banned or restricted. And I think if I were to purchase a gun, I would trust myself to use it responsibly if I ever needed to."

He also said "I think owning a gun is a right. But there are a lot of uneducated, untrained people that misuse that right. So I still don't think people SHOULD carry a gun, but I think people HAVE the right to carry a gun."

He also said he's not against things like mag capacity limits or making people wait 30 days to get a gun, etc. But I think that's just because he's not educated about guns. He said something along the lines of "I don't think people should have a right to something like that", when of course they do, and he didn't realize it.

I think this event really changed his perspective.
