AITA for not rescuing my half dead dog with a drug addict when she came back for him?

I was a addict a few years ago but I been clean for awhile, during the time I was still using I had a dog named Pluto. He was a really sweet boy and I loved him to death. I got him when he was a puppy and he grew up with me and my ex. <br><br>But when my addiction got bad and I was on the streets which was about 6 months before now. My ex took him in when I couldn’t take care of him anymore and he’s been living with her. <br><br>I had a bad habit of giving him drugs and I would steal his food so I could sell it for a fix. I only saw him once this whole time and he was doing good but I knew he was still traumatized from what I done. I’ve been trying to get better since then and go to therapy and rehab. <br><br>Well one of my friends was in a really bad situation and she needed money so she sold her car. She had a baby and since she didn’t have a car she couldn’t get a job because of no one to watch her baby and had no car to get to a job. I knew this and I didn’t want to take the money but I did. <br><br>When my ex found out what I done she got mad at me for using the money for myself and not helping out an old friend and she’s right. I was wrong to do that. <br><br>But this morning I got a call from my mom that ex was looking for me. I went to her house and when I got there I found out she called the police on me. She told me she was going to have me barred from seeing my dog ever again and she wanted me to stay away from her like she did when I was using. <br><br>I asked what happened and the police told me they got a call that Pluto wasn’t eating and was really sick that ex couldn’t take care of him. They went to check on him and they said he was really bad off and asked if I wanted to take him to the vet or have him put down. I said I wanted him taken to the vet I would pay for it. <br><br>Well they called animal control and they said they wouldn’t take him to the vet unless ex paid for it. Ex then told them to just take him to the pound and put him down. I told them not to do that and I would pay for it. <br><br>That’s when they said since ex is his owner now, with papers and all, and she said no they couldn’t take him to the vet. Then the police asked me to leave since she wanted me to stay away from her and Pluto. But I told them I really loved that dog and didn’t want to see him euthanized. They told me then I should of thought about that when I did what I did. <br><br>I then asked her again to please let me take care of him. She said if I was so worried about him I should of thought about that when I gave him drugs and left him outside. She also said I should of got a job for her instead of taking the money for myself. I admitted I was out of control and I would do anything to make it up to her and Pluto. <br><br>She got mad and said I’m not his owner anymore and she doesn’t have to do what I say. Then my mom got mad at me and told me I need to stop using and I would do anything to get that drug and that I really don’t care about Pluto and I just wanted a easy way out. She said she would call my probation officer and have me tested. I told her I was clean and she told me to prove it. I really want Pluto back because he’s my best friend and I really miss having him and I need to have him back.
