Just wanted to warn fellow Americans: I was just denied access to the UK because of an expired Global Entry receipt

Hi all. I'm going to go ahead and forewarn my fellow Americans - I was just denied access to the UK because of an expired Global Entry receipt. Wish I was joking. I've never been denied access to a country before, but I was just turned back at Heathrow because my Global Entry receipt expired last year. I completely forgot about it. APC is a different story, but I thought it was a courtesy to warn anyone else out there.

I was flagged for secondary, and the security officer (who was being very kind and understanding) showed me on the CBP website that my Global Entry had expired, which is why I have apparently been Red Flagged. I entered the country today on a US Passport, and was able to clear passport control with no issues. After collecting my bags, I went through security as normal, just to be asked to go to secondary for my luggage to be searched.

After being searched, the officer brought me into the secondary screening room, where she could see I was red flagged. When she asked why, she saw that it was because of my Global Entry. I've never had Global Entry denied or revoked, but she said that when it expired, it didn't automatically renew. She refused to let me stay in the country, and I was put on a flight back to New York an hour later.

I'm currently back on the ground in New York, and spoke with the customer service desk, who told me it was a mistake on my end, and that I should renew my Global Entry. I just wanted to throw it out there, so no one else has to go through that.

EDIT: To all the people saying "why would you need global entry to enter the UK", the problem was I don't have APC (Authorized to Fly), and it apparently didn't matter that I was cleared by passport control.

I understand the confusion, and I apologize for any misunderstandings – the fault was on my end, and I should have renewed it. I'm just concerned that this is going to be an ongoing issue with other countries as well.

Thanks for the help in the comments!
