Question about English BEFORE the Great Vowel Shift?

So my world has a pretty simple magic system. Magic is just a matter of speaking a magic word in a certain inflection, which makes the world change around you. If you do it right, you get what you want. If you do it wrong, you get something else, or you get hurt. <br><br>Now this is a world where the Great Vowel Shift never happened, so English sounds kind of like a mix of German and Middle English. This means that a lot of the words sound very different, so “bite” is more like “beet-eh” and “house” is more like “hoose” or “howss”. <br><br>Would it make sense to say that the spelling of the words also stay closer to their Middle English spellings? It’s a fantasy world, so I can really do whatever I want with English, but I was just wondering how realistic it would be.
