I'm not here to argue whether minimum wage should be increased or not, I'm here to change your view on linking welfare with the minimum wage. <br><br>If you do support an increase in the minimum wage, then you **must** support a reduction in government welfare handouts.<br>If you **do not** support a reduction in government welfare handouts, then you **cannot** support an increase in the minimum wage.<br><br>The US government spends almost 1/4th of its entire yearly budget on welfare. It gives roughly 15% of its entire yearly budget to citizens making minimum wage, or those that make slightly above minimum wage.<br>If an increase in minimum wage only increases inflation by 2%, this does mean that the welfare check is now worth 2% less than it was the year before, because the welfare check did not increase to keep up with the 2% inflation.<br>In essence, you are now paying for the welfare check twice.<br>Once, via taxes on your paycheck.<br>Twice, via higher prices of goods used to purchase the same items you could purchase with the welfare check the year before.<br><br>CMV: If you support a minimum wage increase, you support a reduction in government welfare.<br><br>Edit: I'll try to update this periodically if people are curious about the outcome.<br>I'd say 75% of the comments have been respectful and have presented thoughtful information.
