People who say "you'll be fine" are excusing themselves from the mental anguish they'd feel if they offered actual empathy

Everyone who has a job or is otherwise successful, gets close to a large bedrock of people who are doing poorly, and they say "you'll be fine" because if they tried to empathize, it would change their worldview to one they'd rather not see.

Attributing all of our problems to our own fault is just a way of shielding one's self from the truth about this dystopian hellscape - a storybook version of society designed to shit out people like we're disposable, to be put into debt by unscrupulous corporations and government entities.

Empathy with the poor would lead people to hatred of the wealthy and the government, and would threaten their own security as well. But the fact is, there's a lot of people struggling in this society because it's designed to be shitty.
