It’s 6:15 PM, I’m sitting in my living room when I hear the sound. It’s like a small spring working its way through all the gears and machinery in my brain. Click.

A moment later, I get a notification on my phone. It looks like a text message, but the phone number is strange.

“Why does holding a saltshaker upside down, emptying it, slowly release salt over a short period of time?”

It’s the first time I’ve gotten this message. It took me about 6 months to figure it out.

Click.

It’s 7:10, and I’m reading a book on my computer when I get another one.

“Why do raindrops fall at the same speed, whether or not the rain is heavy?”

This one took almost a year.

Click.

It’s 12:13 AM, and I’m working on a math problem. I get another.

“Why do marbles have flat bottoms?”

I finally had a revelation about how these questions were connected. I started looking at them all together, and started reading the comments on the first one I got. It took me a few hours, but I finally solved them all.

By around 3:20 AM, I had. I got the following response before the messages stopped.

“That’s right. You may now take your finger out of the barrel, and live your life free from intricate mysteries and meaningless wonders. Good luck.”

I took my finger out of the barrel.
