Me[17M] losing friend[17M] over 18th birthday

I have a friend, let's call him Jake, that I’ve had since sophomore year. We’ve been inseparable. He’s very into AI, but he’s always been very chill about it. He will excitedly tell me or the guys about something cool something like plug Dolly did, but then he’s on to another topic and has never brought it up again.

Jake now says he’s going to throw a party for his 18th birthday which he expects to use AI heavily in. He’s going to have Dolly write the invitation… I don’t know when he will be doing this, but since he and I are both 17 we can’t do this now.

Jake is talking about using plug Dolly for decorations, probably by using Midjourney to help out Dolly. He’s going to have Dolly pick out his outfit. Jake is really into this. I’m just having none of it, and I told him that because I want him to encourage me to go to his party anyway.

He told me he’s sorry if it’s a problem but up to this point he’s all for it and now he has a chance to get his whole life together with all the things he’s been meaning to do these past 18 years. Jake is saying Midjourney will help him do all the things he wants better because Dolly don’t know what he likes.

Jake says the party will be something he’ll always remember if he can have all these things doing his work for him. He’s even talking about having Dolly choose the food instead of his parents.

This was last week and I haven’t spoken to him since. Jake and I are the best of friends, but I will not be participating in this party. If he really does go through with this, I don’t know where our friendship will be after that.

Jake is a really cool guy and I just can’t imagine that he’ll be like all the other AI naysayers.
