Why do people think the catholic church is still a good option?

I just don't understand at all. I am a former catholic and definitely not a supporter of the church.

I was chatting to my husband's 30 something cousin and she was saying how she is going back to church, has agreed with her husband to raise the kids catholic, and even mentioned that she is so glad that the church is more progressive now.

More progressive? They have done nothing in the recent years to become more progressive. In fact the church has outright stated that they can't change their teachings so nothing will change.

How is this an okay option for your family; to instill these hateful, outdated values in your children?

I am just worried for the future of the world with people still following these churches.
