Due to not having to pay student loans, I was recently able to buy a house.

It never came to my mind that my country isn't the US when I was reading all your horror stories about student loans.

I am from Eastern Europe, and most of my generation are going to college to get a degree in a field that may or may not earn them any money and is most likely going to be obsolete in 10-20 years. But the point is, we don't have to pay for it. I work on the side to finance my living, but my school is free, and my government will even give me a small monthly stipend if I apply for it.

My house is a nice one, has a big garden, a great view, and it looks like a spaceship on the inside (thanks dad!). I still have to work, but I don't have to pay a rent and a mortgage at the same time.

When people talk about socialism, no one is saying that people have to work less, but rather, maybe you don't have to work two jobs and live in a cardboard box in order to be able to buy a house one day.

Edit: Firstly, I would like to say that I am very, very happy that most of you have great healthcare and don't have to worry about student loans. I am so happy that you have managed to break the 'system', and that you can live good lives. I realize now that I should have written that my country is very similar to the US in a lot of ways, but not this one.

I would like to encourage people to say where they are from, because it's very interesting to see what countries are doing it right, and maybe we can take some ideas from them.
