This is a post for all the confused people who say Poles can’t tell Lithuanians apart from Poles.

Bank cards, passports, IDs, speaking Lithuanian, living in Lithuania, imitating Lithuanians, claiming to be Lithuanian etc.

Usually even after asking few questions it’s possible to figure out.

Lithuanians speak Lithuanian natively, they know what is greetings, how to be polite and what is folk culture (Dainos, folk dance, clothing, instruments, etc). That’s why we can ask questions to know for sure if they are Lithuanian or not. What’s the difference between Poland and Lithuania? What do you call those dolls that have national clothing. How do you describe this folk dance, what is the name? What is this song about? What is this instrument? Who is this historical figure in? And so on. Lithuanians know historical figures, they know how to behave, they know folklore, imitators usually don’t.

So when I ask you that question, it’s not to annoy you, it’s to know if you are Lithuanian or not. If you are Lithuanian, you should know this. If you don’t know, you probably aren’t. If you are trying to imitate us, well we know that you are not Lithuanian, that’s why we ask.
