How do you get them out of your keys?

I just spent the last hour and 45 minutes in a cold parking lot manually picking each one of them out of my keys. They seem to get so far in that last bank that nearly touches my thumb. I had to use my thumb to get them out since the tips of my index fingers are too large and the tips of my pinky finger are slightly too small. Are there better ways of getting them out?
