I’m sick of people saying that those in education have summers off

It’s an argument I constantly have with people. So many think that teachers get the *entire* summer off and use that as an excuse as to why we make so little. It makes me furious. We don’t get the entire summer off. Stop saying we do. We get 60-90 days a year off without pay. That’s it. I get 8 weeks in the summer, and one week for both fall and spring break. My school is one of the more “generous” ones as well. Everyone I know usually only gets 6 or 7 weeks in the summer.
Yes there are careers out there where you can get the summers off, but you are not paid for that time either. Educators are paid for that time. I get paid for the summers, yes, but it makes me so angry when people say oh you get the summers off so it’s fine that you’re underpaid. No. I get paid for summers. But I’m still underpaid. I’m paid *so little* that with my bachelors and masters I qualify for welfare. I don’t even get paid enough to pay rent. Everything goes on my partners card and he pays for everything.

I think people just don’t realize how little we make. I have a bachelors and masters, I’ve spent YEARS in school. Most careers that require that pay triple digit salaries. I don’t even make half of that. I get paid so little that I can barely afford to live. I can barely afford to eat. But I get summers off (with pay) so it’s all okay right? Fuck off with your shit takes. If you think we have it so easy because we get paid summers off, then its your own damn fault. Do your research. You are misinformed.

Tldr; stop acting like educators get summers off without pay because we don’t.
