I've never been a teacher myself, but I do work at a high school. I've seen a lot of young people joining the ranks of teachers in recent years, attracted by the bright lights and big smiles of teachers on TikTok. Don't get tricked!

Teaching is 10% teaching, 20% mentoring, and 70% trying to manage the kids into acting like humans. A lot of the time, you'll be fighting to get everyone to shut up and sit down. It's extremely difficult, high stress, and high burnout. There's a reason why the term "teacher burnout" exists.

Teachers are intellectually capable and highly adaptable, and there are much better career paths out there for you. The pay is poor, the support system is weak, and the return is meagre. Don't fall for the TikTok trap, where people show you fun moments without showing you the day to day struggles. There are always vacancies in teaching, because the job is shit and teachers leave as soon as they get the opportunity.
