I'll be 24 in a couple weeks and my husband just turned 28. We got married over a year ago and have been together for 6 years. The beginning of our relationship was rocky but we worked through it and ended up having a happier relationship for it afterwards.

1. Arguing is okay. What matters is how you make up.

My biggest fear of marrying was that I would argue and become miserable. The first fight we had as a married couple was even scarier. It made me feel like I was doomed to not get along with him. We've had to get used to arguing for a bit but it's much easier now. We try not to argue and usually make up quickly because it gives us bad vibes in the house.

2. It's necessary to have alone time.

We realized how important it was to have our alone time. I take a nap during the day, and he gets a nap in after work. That way we don't get irritated with each other.

3. Not to be so lazy.

I stayed home during the week so I got used to being lax and sleeping in. Since being home with him I've been more motivated. I go to the gym most days and spend my day off doing errands or whatever needs doing.

4. How to grocery shop together.

For a while it was a long painful process to go grocery shopping. Now it's much faster and more life changing than it should be. We bring a cart, and two baskets, divide the groceries between us and meet at our cart at the end. We can go in and out in under 15 minutes now.

5. How to have dinner ready at the same time ready.

We used to have to wait for each other's food to be ready. Since I usually get home before him, I realized I need to cook the longer things first. It's much nicer to be able to eat together when we both get home.

6. To be okay being gross.

There are days where we don't have to be presentable, but we both look gross. I learned that you need to be okay looking like a bum at home but not feel like you look like a bum.

With all that being said, we both agree that marriage is better than just living together. It makes us both feel happier that we have that commitment and that even though we both have a hard time paying attention to details, we could do it together.
