I work for a food delivery company and I meal prep. Here’s why.

I have delivered food for DoorDash for about a year now. Most of my shifts are on Sundays, which is when I meal prep for the week. How can I be driving around serving fast food all day to people who are home doing nothing, yet I’m prepping healthy food for myself?

I have a job, just like they do. I work third shift at a manufacturing plant. My shifts start at 12:00am and last 12 hours. After a 12 hour shift, the last thing I want to do is cook. Hell, I’m not hungry most of the time. I don’t have time to prepare a meal, especially since I’m trying to get home and get ready for bed. I also have a very busy schedule outside of work, so I have to prioritize my time.

Sure, I spend about an hour and a half cooking on Sundays, but I don’t have to worry about being hungry and needing snacks at work, or being too tired to cook when I’m home. I also feel better, and I look better. I don’t have to rely on fast food for convenience to get me through the day. I can spend about $80 on groceries once a week and eat healthy for 5 days. It’s not expensive, as many of you may think.

I’ve had so many people that I’ve delivered to tell me that I’m lazy for having food delivered. That I should be ashamed of myself. Nope. I work hard for my money and I’m entitled to spend it on whatever I want. I’m not lazy. I’m busy. I’m tired. I don’t want to cook. I don’t feel like cleaning. You know what? That’s okay. I’d rather relax and watch a movie than stress about cooking dinner. I’d rather spend time with my family than spend my day off cooking and cleaning.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a break and ordering food, hell, there’s nothing wrong with cooking fast food at home. You do what you want with your time and money, and let me do what I want with mine. Eat a salad.

Edit: I appreciate all the support and kind messages that I’ve received. Thank you so much! However, this got way more popular than I thought it would and I don’t want to be “that person” that constantly has to defend themselves. I do appreciate the feedback though. I wasn’t trying to bash people who order fast food or say anything negative about them. I was simply trying to make a point that we all have different priorities and lifestyles, and that’s okay.

Something else I feel that I need to add is that I deliver on Sundays because I choose to, not because I’m desperate for money. I have a good paying job that provides for my family and I. I deliver because it’s something to do and to get out of the house for a while. I enjoy it because I get to interact with people in a different way than I do at my regular job. Delivering is my choice, just like how ordering food is your choice. Please don’t attack people that you don’t even know. It makes you look ignorant and immature.
