I am a manager for a big box home goods store and every day I am disgusted by the waste that I see.

It's a warped world where everyone constantly says how much they hate waste, yet everyone's job relies on constant consumption of goods.

Fast Fashion, even faster home decor. Reasonable quality throwaway items markups so high it's insane.

I do everything I can to mitigate the damage I see. I always suggest options that create less waste and have the least impact. I've even gone out of my way to personally deliver items to customers who walked in off the street on the chance that we had the item they wanted in stock. Trying to mitigate the need for shipping.

I've turned down promotions because I didn't want to be a part of the machine. I always speak out against over purchasing and over producing.

Sometimes I feel like I'm just a treasonist who went undercover and now the longer I'm in the deeper in I become. I feel like I'm losing myself and my values completely.

I feel like this job is my life now and I'm killing the planet.
