What is the point of prices for new guns vs "used"?

I've noticed that new guns are going for a premium over "used" guns. The original owner / FFL dealer didn't change the gun in any way. I could have sworn that a few years ago guns were priced by what region you are in, not by some weird price difference from new to used.<br><br>
