What is your favorite thing you’ve ever written?

This got me thinking….come share your favorites if you’d like. I was digging around in my boxes of memorabilia and papers (because I’m an organized person, you see) and found my copy of the school paper from senior year when they published a short poem of mine called “Dear Childhood.” I glanced over it and thought it would be fun to see what other’s favorite things are.

So….what is your favorite thing you’ve ever written? Why did you like it so much, and what was going through your mind as you wrote it? What did it feel like when you wrote it? Do you think you could recapture that feeling?

Enjoy the poem and see you in the comments!

---

Dear Childhood,

My dear friend, I’m sorry you had to leave. Had I known you weren’t coming back I would have cherished the moments we had more. I would have hugged you tighter and held on longer and never let you go.

I remember the days when you’d stay with me. In the summer, when the sun was bright and warm, we’d play outside in the sprinklers for hours. Our laughter echoed through the neighborhood. You taught me how to use my imagination and how to make friends. We could be anyone and anywhere with one another.

It wasn’t until you left me that I realized how much I valued your presence. I thought you’d always be with me. It’s funny how things leave when we think they’re always going to be present.

I know that now that you’re gone, other experiences will come, and some will be fun and some won’t be. But I’ll learn from them all, and I’ll grow. But I’ll never forget the fun memories we made together. Thank you for staying with me as long as you did.
