I am not getting ready to set off a mindless cultural battle here. I just want you to understand the way polyglots think about their homeland.

**There is no measure for how patriotic one should be.**

No one knows where he is going to be born and live. You don’t choose your homeland. You are thrown into it. You don’t choose your family. You don’t choose to be born. You are born. And once you are born, you are given the chance to live and experience life in the best way you possibly can, because life is beautiful and meanwhile you are blessed to be alive.

Yes, you are given the opportunity to live in a place and experience its culture and lifestyle, but later on you might decide to live somewhere else that is closer to your personality, your way of living and thinking or that is a better place to grow as a person and you have the right to do that. It is your life and you decide where you choose to live in. You don’t owe anyone anything. We are not responsible for how those around us live their lives. We are responsible for how we live our lives and we are responsible to set the example for those around us.

**You owe yourself to be happy**

Whenever someone following a passion that is not common to where he is from decides to move somewhere else to pursue it, people have the tendency to judge him because he is doing something that is not traditionally done where he comes from.

For example, if you come from a small village in the mountains in a poor country and you decide to pursue your dream job that is available in a big city in another country, people will judge you for it just because you don’t follow the traditional ways of your village and you decide to leave because you don’t find what you are looking for in your homeland.

Yet you don’t owe anyone anything. You owe yourself to be happy. You owe yourself to live your life the way you want to.

You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t make it right. Just because you were born somewhere doesn’t mean that you have to live there your whole life. You have your own right to decide how you live your life.

If you find happiness in your homeland, that’s amazing. But you can’t hold someone back just because you hope they would stay. No. **You can’t hold anyone back.**

Each and every person on this planet has the right to decide how they want to live their life and that is a fact no one should ever forget.

**Where do polyglots come from?**

You see, people that are interested in language learning don’t follow the traditional way life has to offer. They have other interests. They have a different way of living and thinking and they want to go out there and explore the world, discover new things, meet new people, learn their ways of living, learn their language. They want to be part of something bigger than their village or city or country. They want to be part of something bigger than their homeland. They want to be part of humanity and work on a universal scale to make the world a better place.

They want to connect people and bring them together. They want to bring people close. They want to make the world a better place for everyone. And they won’t stop until their dreams come true.

Maybe they have a traditional prove in their country, but they follow a dream that is not common for their people. And meanwhile they should have the right to live anywhere in the world and their life choices shouldn’t be judged because no one should ever be judged.

**Where am I from?**

I am from Greece. **A country in debt that is struggling to even exist.** A country that has left me with nothing to offer me but debt. A country that is full of corruption and crime and where politicians have created a system that doesn’t allow people to grow but kills them.

A country that is the cradle of democracy and philosophy and theater and literature and science and humanity, but has nothing to offer to the younger generation.

Whenever someone succeeds in anything in Greece, it is a miracle. Whenever someone dares to pursue a dream that is not common in Greece, people judge him for it.

And I dream to be a polyglot. I want to speak as many languages as I possibly can and discover new cultures and meet new people. I want to grow as a person. I want to be part of something bigger than Greece. I want to be part of humanity. And you can’t judge me for it.

**It doesn’t matter where you are from.**

I am not trying to be nationalist or to offend people that are proud of their country or to offend people that are nationalist. I am not trying to offend anyone.

I just want you to understand that it doesn’t matter where you are from. It doesn’t matter where you are going to live. You don’t owe anyone anything. You owe yourself to be happy and to live your life the way you want to.

**Polyglots are not strangers anywhere.**

Yes, I am from Greece, but I am not a stranger anywhere. Wherever I go, I have a home. I have a place to live and I have people that I can share my life with and I have a new family.

And I am not alone. Every polyglot is the same. Polyglots are not strangers anywhere. Polyglots are not alone. They have people to share their lives with and they have a place to live.

And you shouldn’t judge them for it. No one should be judged for following their dreams. No one should be judged for pursuing happiness. No one should be judged for how they live their life. No one should be judged for what they want from life. No one should be judged for who they are.

And if you do something that is not common in where you come from, believe me, no one should judge you for it. You owe yourself to be happy. You owe yourself to live your life the way you want to.

***

I know this post is different than my usual posts, but I hope you liked it!
