My local gun store has been broken into and guns stolen. This is the 5th time in the area in the last year. How should you protect yourself from burglars?

This is the 5th time in the last year in my area, and it’s concerning that there may be more guns in circulation within our area that are “off the radar” and not in “the system.”

Other than getting a home safe that’s bolted to the floor (I’m not sure how effective that is against a burglar, since they can always just take the whole safe), what can you do to protect yourself and your possessions from theft? Can anyone recommend a particular safe that’s effective and what steps you can take to make sure it’s left alone?

I don’t know what to do to protect myself, and there are so many questions. What if the burglar is armed? Is a home security system effective? What are the best defensive mechanisms (if any)? Should I get a dog (will a dog deter a burglar)? What if a dog doesn’t deter a burglar?

I’m terrified of being burgled, especially now that there are more guns in circulation in my area that are “off the radar” and not in “the system,” and I don’t know what to do.
