I was very surprised by how a friend reacted to the news of AI

I was the first one of my close group of friends to learn about AI. I spent tons of time studying it, trying all of the tools, experimenting and learning. And then when I started talking with my friends about how they could use it, they were very skeptical.. like, almost annoyed. I asked why and they said that I've always been the person who is the "excited early adopter" who brings up things that are mostly useless to them.

I didn't even realize that I was this kind of person, but they've known me for a while. So they kind of wrote me off when I was excited about AI.

But then today, a message showed up on our group chat from a different friend, who was saying how AI is going to get him a promotion because he is going to use it to do most of his work, and he's going to take credit for this work.

I don't think that this is a good thing. I don't think that AI is a good thing, actually, I think it's a terrible thing. I was excited about it at first, the way that you're excited about a rollercoaster before you realize that it's out of control and is going to crash.

No one knows how to handle AI. It's like giving a three year old a machine gun. But my friend thinks he's smarter than the machine gun. He doesn't get it.

I don't think anyone gets the implications of AI yet. But I'm not going to stop trying to tell people.
