What if the circumference of the Earth changed with every time zone you cross?

Let's assume the circumference is around 40.000 km at 12:00 PM (noon). If you travel east from 12:00, the number of kilometers you have to travel to reach the next time zone increases exponentially, and if you travel west, the number of kilometers you have to travel decreases exponentially.

For example, if a day consists of 24 hours, and the circumference at 12:00 is 40.000 km, the circumference as you approach 13:00 might be 67.000 km, at 14:00 it might be 113.000 km, at 00:00 it might be only 9.000 km, at 23:00 it might shrink down to 7.000 km and at 11:00 it might be 3.500 km. (All the numbers are arbitrary, just to demonstrate the concept).

What kind of impact could this have on things like global air travel, navigation, trade, politics and our understanding of the world?

If you think this is an interesting idea, I have posted it on some other chambers as well. Feel free to post your thoughts and ideas there too.
