Am I the Asshole for not letting my younger brother graduate high school as valedictorian just because the school thinks he is?

Yes this is a throwaway.

So my brother is 4 years younger than me. He's a senior in high school and he's doing great academically. He is not top 10% but he is in the top 20% and has all As and only one B. He is involved in three sports, student council and two clubs.

When I was in high school I worked hard and graduated with a 4.3 GPA. While that's not the highest, I was in the top 5% of my class. My school has a large student body with almost 800 students in each class. I was involved in 2 clubs, honor societies and student government and was on the dance team for 3 years. I had all As and one B. I was chosen as valedictorian my senior year.

My parents were so proud of me and how well I did. They still talk about me being valedictorian to this day. I can hear for myself when they mention it.

My brother has always been jealous of the attention my parents give towards me and my achievements. He always tries to be better and wanted to be valedictorian.

When the school email came out with the top 10 students and the valedictorian and salutatorian none of those were my brother. The valedictorian and salutatorian both work hard. Valedictorian is in student government and cheer and salutatorian is in band and a club. Both of them have 4.6 GPAs.

My brother is pissed he isn't valedictorian. He has a 4.1 and he thinks he should be valedictorian because I was. He thinks the school hates him and that he should be valedictorian because he comes from a family of a valedictorian.

He asked the school to make him valedictorian. They said no. He told them he is from a family of a valedictorian and that it is a family tradition. They again said no.

He went to his teacher and his student counselor. Both said no. HisEnglish teacher said he doesn't even rank in her class. He has a C in it.

My brother is so angry. He told his friends that he is going to be valedictorian at our school and that he is going to give a speech at graduation.

He came to me and said since he can't convince the school, student council or teachers he wants me to step in and try to convince the school to make him valedictorian. I said no. I told him he isn't in the top 10. He said it doesn't matter, he should be valedictorian.

I told him no. He got angry. He said it's so easy for me. I got lucky. I was a nerd. I told him I worked hard. I said the valedictorian and salutatorian work hard and they got there because of their own hard work.

He said he will tell Mom and Dad I won't help him. So he called them on speaker phone. My brother said Mom, Dad, I want to be valedictorian. I am coming from a long line of valedictorians. OP won't help me and I know if you call the principal he will make me valedictorian. My parents asked what was going on and I explained how the school chose the new valedictorian and salutatorian and how they both worked hard. I told them my brother wants me to use my name to get him a new status as valedictorian. My parents told my brother he should be proud of the valedictorian and salutatorian. They said the students worked hard. My brother isn't in the top 10% and it wouldn't be fair. They ended by saying they wouldn't call the school and I shouldn't either.

My brother was so angry. He said I am the reason he isn't valedictorian.
