I am not sure what he wanted to do but here is what happened.

I was at the grocery store yesterday, about 1245. I am a 42 yo male, and a big guy at 6'3 and 240 lbs. I was in the frozen food section when I saw a man in a red shirt and jeans walking around the frozen food section. he didnt have a cart, and it looked like he was waiting for someone. I noticed him because he was the only guy w/o a cart and his shirtsleeves were rolled up. I figured he was waiting for someone since he was pacing around.

A minute later, a mom and her two kids came by. The kids were probably 4-5 and 2-3 yo. The son was wearing a blue shirt and the daughter had a pink shirt. They had a cart, and the girl was in the cart seat. he waited until they went down the row, then he proceeded to follow them. He didnt go down the row where they went, he walked to the side and proceeded to go down the next row so he could get where they were going. I thought this was very strange.

I have two girls, and I cant stand it when I see dads using their kids to get to other single moms. This is exactly what I thought this guy was doing. I was going to go down the row where they were and tell them what this idiot was doing, but he was already gone. I went to another row and saw them in the cereal aisle. The guy in the red shirt was a couple rows away. When the mom looked his way, he would look away. When she was looking at her kids or at the cereal, he would look at her. I was so pissed that this guy would do this.

I saw them turn down the row for the registers, and when I got there, they were in line but not the guy in the red. He was at the registers but at the self checkout. He was still watching them. When they were putting their items on the belt, he would look where they were at (so not to make eye contact), and when they were looking at each other or the kids were talking or whatever and they werent paying attention to him, he would look and watch them. I thought this was so screwed up.

I dont know what his intentions were, but watching a mom and her two kids then trying to make his move in a grocery store? I cant stand men like this. I cant imagine a mother being stupid enough to fall for a guy like this, but I get that single moms are the most vulnerable and that some would be desperate for the attention. I felt horrible watching all of this, and I cant imagine a man thinking this is ok. Some people are screwed up in the head.

As I was putting my items away at my car, I looked at the mom and her kids, and they were putting their stuff in the car next to mine. The guy in the red shirt was about 5 cars away, and as I was putting my stuff away, he kept looking over at them. He would look at his car, then he would look at them. I dont know if he had a bag in his car he could use or what, but he kept looking at them. I could imagine that he might have reached in his car, grabbed a bag, then went over to them and started talking or whatever. I dont know and I will never know, but I do know that I could not just stand by and watch this happen.

I walked up to the mom as she was putting stuff in her car, and asked her if she could do me a solid? I said "I am going to sound like a crazy person, but please listen." I proceeded to tell her exactly what I saw. From him following her around the grocery store, to how he would watch her. I made sure to point out the guy in the red shirt. I asked her to please be careful and watch out for herself and her kids.

She was obviously distraught as a mom should be. I dont think she believed me and thought I was crazy, until she looked over and saw the guy in the red shirt. He was still watching them. She asked me what she should do, and I said that she should go back inside. That she should tell someone at the customer service counter what happened, and if they could have someone walk her to her car. She did exactly that. The guy in the red shirt got into his car and drove away.

I feel better that I might have prevented something horrible from happening, but I cant help but feel disgusted at that guy and the fact that he would do this. I also feel horrible that I couldnt do more to stop this guy for good.

This is the first time that I can honestly say that I have run into a potential kidnapper in my life. I am still in shock and I am still trying to process this, but I think I will never forget this, and I can never imagine how this mom will feel for the rest of her life. She will probably never forget this day as long as she lives.
