Tesla is by far the most-anticipated tech company of the past decade and a half, and was the singular most interesting technology story of our time. It has been a very key part of our recent past, and it continues to be in the news these days.

People were fascinated by Tesla, a lot of them were early adopters, and many were waiting with bated breath for the day when Tesla would be able to mass-produce electric cars, make them more affordable and desirable, and in this way, give the middle finger to fossil fuels and the traditional auto industry. This anticipation has been huge, it has been maintained for many years, and such anticipation has been a big part of the company's value proposition for some time.

Tesla is not just a company, but a movement. It has been the big story of this generation.

But, let's be real, has Tesla lived up to the hype? The answer is no. I don't know why, but they have not lived up to the hype. They haven't done anything wrong, but they aren't really making waves these days. They have not been the awesome, groundbreaking technology story that they were 5 years ago.

This answer will probably piss off the Tesla bros, but let's be honest.

We have seen the Cybertruck which was kind of a joke, the Optimist which was interesting, and Full Self-Driving (FSD) is more a marketing term than a revolutionary new technology, and as for the Hyperloop, well, it has been totally forgotten, but aside from that, what else?

Tesla has promised the world for many years, and delivered very little. Their technology is no longer revolutionary or groundbreaking. All of the car companies are now producing electric cars, and they are better than Tesla’s in some ways. Tesla no longer has a big first mover advantage as it had in the past.

In fact, Tesla is being surpassed in some areas, for example, its Supercharger network which was once the best, is no longer the best. Many of the other car companies have now caught up with Tesla, and they are able to produce better electric cars than Tesla in many ways.

It's a good car company, but it's not the future, nor the answer to all of the world's problems as it once was. We don't really hear much about the Tesla revolution that is going to change the world anymore.

Furthermore, Tesla’s production capacity hasn’t increased all that much, if you think about it. Not long ago they were still producing less than 500,000 cars a quarter, then they got up to 1.8 million or so, and now they consistently produce more than 2 million a quarter. They have been around for a long time, and you would figure that they would have much higher production capacity than that.

If you think about it, you kind of expected them to be producing 5 to 10 million cars a quarter by now, but they're not.

When all is said and done, both Elon Musk and Tesla have promised us the world and they haven't delivered. The world was given a lofty vision of the future, and it's just not here yet, and it's not going to be here soon.

And as for Elon Musk, let’s be honest, he is no longer Tony Stark. He is not the cool, intriguing billionaire that he once was. He's been in the news too much, mostly for negative reasons lately, and he is now more of a joke than a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist.

He used to be a big deal, and he isn't as big of a deal anymore.
