Well, it's kind of crazy how much of a response this got, but I appreciate all the comments and the awards and everything. I'm glad I could brighten some people's days.

Anyway, I just wanted to give a quick update. Things turned out mostly okay in the end, I think, although my jaw still drops a little whenever I think of it.

My husband came home to find that I'd cancelled the event, and the living room had been thoroughly cleaned and was spotless. I told him he could go ahead and invite his friends over, but I wasn't going to be around.

He asked me why I'd cancelled the event, and I told him I'd decided he was right, and that he deserved to spend his free time however he wanted. Then I went to our bedroom and shut the door.

His friends showed up, and they started drinking and watching the game. My husband kept texting me, asking me to come out, but I said I was good.

Then, after about an hour, one of the guests spilled an entire beer on the carpet and soaked it. My husband came into the bedroom and told me that he was really sorry about what he'd said, and that he felt awful about the argument we'd had and what he'd done to the living room.

I told him it was okay, and that I'd forgiven him, and then I came out and hung out with his friends for a while. We had a good time. They all apologized profusely for trashing the place, and my husband promised to make it up to me.

It was all pretty cool, I thought, and it actually turned out to be a fun night, even though it was a little stressful. So, thanks to all you people out there for giving me the courage to stand up for myself.
