My job offer was rescinded because I asked about the medical benefits. I am absolutely dumbfounded. Is this normal?

I got a job offer about a month ago and decided to pass on a bunch of other offers because it was my dream company. I was told to show up at the beginning of March, but they wanted to do a "trial period" first and have me do some work to make sure I am up to the challenge. I have put in 80+ hours of work in two weeks, and the last email I got said "everything looks great, we will see you at the beginning of March".

Well this morning I get an email saying that the offer is being rescinded because "I asked too many questions". Apparently, they said I asked about the health insurance plan and I "should not have done that". I was absolutely stunned, I have never heard of this happening before.

I ask EVERY company I get an offer from about the medical benefits. They have all bragged about their excellent PPO plans and access to specialists, but this company says it is "none of my business" to ask about health insurance. I am seriously confused. Is this normal? I thought asking about health insurance was normal.
