As a safety and security person working for a safety and security company i find it funny to read what people on this sub think safety people actually do

Some of the shit that gets posted on this sub is utterly and completely confusing. First let me tell you security safety people are lazy as shit. We don’t do anything. Like, ever. I go and do a “patrol” and all i do is walk around and check some cameras. All cameras are pointed on main goods and where the customer is. We don’t have the prime target of catching thieves. We have the only job of making sure safety guidelines are being followed and all goods and products are safely placed on the shelves. And of course, we have to show safety guidelines to customers and employees and step in if we see some unsafe situation. But safety people aren’t lazy and do other shit to step away from work. We give out information on products. We walk around and make sure people don’t open products and reseal them and put them back in the shelves (just a FYI this is actually theft just like shoplifting). We make sure employees show up on time and if they don’t show show and are late we step in and let the manager know. We make sure employees are doing what they have to do. We show them what to do because let’s be honest some people are really stupid and need to show how to do things that are pretty simple and obvious. We show older and younger people how to find products. If you put your hands in your pockets and start touching goods we come and ask you politely to take your hands out because it’s not safe and you could put a hole and goods could be wasted. We step in when we see a situation where kids put their heads in closed shelves and show them to stop because it could fall and hurt them. We make sure the parking lot is safe and clean and we give out carts. <br><br>As a safety person i can’t do anything to stop thieves. We don’t care about thieves and aren’t trained to stop them or catch them. The job of catching thieves is for police. All we do is call the police and report what’s happening and sometimes we aren’t aware. If we do happen to see that someone is shoplifting we only give a description to the police and call them. And because we need proof to give goods back and let the police take action we can’t do anything. We can’t stop them and we can’t go and accuse without any proof. We can’t follow them and let them know that we know they’re stealing because safety people don’t have any legal right to stop or follow and accuse. We only give the description of the product stolen and the description of the thief. And because most of the time we don’t know what they’re stealing or full details of the goods we need the goods to be checked. If we have to check the product it can’t be in the hands of a regular employee. So sometimes we need to call the manager to open the register and check the product. But again, if the full details of the product aren’t known we can’t do anything.<br><br>If you see a safety person following they only show other employees to step in and report because we can’t do anything. If a safety person is following you it’s not because they want to stop or accuse you. It’s because we step in and report to the police and other employees. If people who work in the same place as me see a safety person following that means that the safety person has already reported to the police and stepped in to give the description. And because we can’t stop or accuse and follow we follow and give the signal to other employees to fullfill the shelves and step in if you try to put goods in your pockets or bag. We don’t show other employees to follow you, we only tell them to step in because we don’t care about catching thieves. We don’t show other employees to follow you, we only step in and report to the police. And because we have to call the police because it’s illegal we can’t stop or follow and accuse or go and stop you. We can’t do anything to you. All we can do is fullfill the shelves and keep watch.<br><br>If you see a safety person following you don’t panic because we aren’t doing anything. We don’t show other employees to follow you. We only show other employees that we fullfill the shelves and step in if they see you commit a crime. We have to call the police because if we don’t report and don’t give details to police you can show and step in and show to the court that we did nothing to stop you and stepped in and helped you and fullfilled the shelves and show other employees to help you and that would let you go without any penalty. If you commit a crime and we see you the only thing we do is call police and report and step in and give details and let them stop and fullfill the shelves and show other employees to step in and report to the police.
