I watch the gun debate happen in this country and can't help but feel that something is severely wrong. I'll try to keep this concise and clear, but I have no illusions this will sway anyone.

I'm an American. Born here. Educated here. Work here. A lot of Chinese immigrants like myself are in the same situation. We have a unique perspective on the current gun control battle.

It's the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre today. Communism over the last 80 years has killed 100 million Chinese people. I can't predict the future, but China is on the path to becoming the next Nazi Germany. The government is already cracking down on dissent. It's already a surveillance state where your speech is monitored. It's already a place where they can arrest you without due process. The government is breaking Hong Kong, Tibet, and Uyghuristan to fit Chinese domination. Now, they're getting to the point where they're erasing Chinese identity in favor of a Communist Chinese identity. AKA "If you're Chinese, you must be Communist. If you're not a Communist, you are not Chinese."

China is an excellent example of why a dictator cannot exist with free citizens who bear arms.

**For those of you who claim "well what about Singapore?"** Hong Kong is a far better example, and they are begging to have their freedom to bear arms back. Singapore is a microstate, and a far outlier. It has a stable, effective government and remains a democracy. China is the far better example given its similarities to the United States. They had freedom to bear arms, had it taken away, and marched into tyranny.

**For those of you who claim "well what about Switzerland?"** The Swiss are an excellent example of a militarized culture who bear arms and are free. But they are a microstate. China, again, is the better example. They had freedom to bear arms, had it taken away, and marched into tyranny.

**For those of you who claim "well what if a dictator seizes power in America and the citizens are armed?"** A dictator can only seize power with a military. An armed citizenry is insurance that the military can be held accountable. In China, the military is solely responsible for the deaths of 100 million people. In the United States, a militarized citizenry is a safeguard against military tyranny.

**For those of you who claim "well, gun control is necessary to keep the government accountable!"** If you really believe that, you should be protesting outside of the White House right now. The current administration in the United States is no where near a dictatorship, but if you don't want to take my word for how important the right to bear arms is, go talk to the people of Hong Kong. They will tell you that the ability to defend yourself & your children from the government is nothing short of a God-given right.

For those of you who are anti-gun, don't bother commenting on this post. I have no interest in talking to you. I'm just trying to say that from a Chinese perspective, this is the worst idea you could possibly have.
