I’m a college student and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been screamed at for asking for ChatGPT to stop doing my work for me

I 100% understand why professors don’t want AI doing the work. I have no problem with that. After complaining about ChatGPT-induced plagiarism on my assignments in multiple classes, I finally get the TA on the phone.

I try explaining who I’m trying to get the department to stop using ChatGPT in our class, and the TA tells me “I’m about to scream at you. YOU are the one who chose to use chatGPT. You are the one who cheated and committed plagiarism. Please delete the comment in the chat and let me do my goddamn job.”

How about NO. Why the hell do you think I’m here for? I didn’t “select” to use ChatGPT. You assigned it to us as a tool for the class, along with a bunch of other tools. I am not stupid; I know that ChatGPT does what it does, and that it is creating all of my assignments for me. I WANT TO DO MY WORK ON MY OWN. That’s why I’m here, to educate myself and get a degree. I’m not sure how many times I need to repeat that.

The TA who yelled at me literally graduated with a degree that has ChatGPT in the title of the degree. I think she got it just for existing. She can’t tell me she’s never done that. But I still get screamed at and blamed for doing something I didn’t do.
