Today (May 22) the Ministry of the Interior presented a concept for a council resolution to the cabinet of ministers. The concept provides for the simplification of the citizenship application process for those who died for Lithuania, specifically children of Lithuanian citizens.<br><br>The Seimas has already adopted a constitutional amendment establishing Lithuanian citizenship by birthright. However, there are still major gaps in the process for obtaining citizenship. The Ministry of the Interior’s proposed concept for a council resolution aims to simplify the citizenship process for individuals who die for Lithuania.<br><br>This is an important step for the families of soldiers who have died or been injured in the line of duty. However, the Ministry of the Interior’s initiative also includes language regarding restricting the rights of Lithuanian citizenship holders, which could lead to the council restricting their rights. <br><br>This initiative is a step in the wrong direction. The Ministry of the Interior should prioritize the rights of Lithuanian citizenship holders rather than restricting them.
