[Study Routine] The (deceptively) simple Routine that got me a scholarship and allowed me to work 22 hours a week.

I was in the Top 5% of my high school class, got 97% overall in my first year of college, and have never bomb a class while I work 22 hours a week.

I get a lot of questions about my routine, so, I will share my routine.

# **Morning Routine**

* I am very sensitive to sleep. If I wake up at 6 AM, I have a rather poor day. So I sleep in and wake up at 9:30 AM, which I find perfect for me.
* I brush my teeth, and wash my face. I don't really shower often, which has been a point of contention with my mom.
* I make myself a very strong cup of coffee. I take it black. After the coffee, I make two slices of toast. I listen to classical music (usually Chopin) while I eat my toast. I like to sit in silence while I eat my breakfast and watch the world outside my window.
* I take 20 minutes to do my most unpleasant tasks (e.g. replying to emails, paying bills, laundry, etc.).
* I go to the gym and work out.
* I take a shower (or a bath, if I feel like it).
* I take another 20 minutes to do my other tasks.
* Before I start my work, I read a book. Sometimes it's a light read, sometimes it's hermeneutics. It doesn't really matter to me what I read, as long as I make time for it.

# **Work**

* I work from 11:30-2:30. Sometimes my shift runs shorter or longer. My job is fast-paced and unpredictable.
* I work in a restaurant. I am a server. I have learned how to work quickly and efficiently in high-pressure environments.
* At work, I have a very simple routine: I only multitask for 30 minutes a day. I do this at 1 PM, when the restaurant is at its busiest. When I'm at work, I focus only on one task at a time (e.g. taking orders, delivering food, etc.). I only multitask when the restaurant is busy.

# **Afternoon Routine**

* After work, I go to Campus. It takes me about 45 minutes to get to campus via public transit.
* On campus, I pick up my mail, and see my friends. I don't really socialize much, though. I can be quite socially anxious.
* I take 30 minutes to make a snack (usually a sandwich), and watch a video. Once again, I sit in silence and I listen to the world around me.
* I work in the library from 4:30-6 PM. This is my most productive time. When I work, I follow the Pomodoro Technique.
* I get dinner around 6:30 PM.
* From 7-9 PM, I work out. I like to work out
* From 9:30-10:30, I pick up my laundry, and do a quick tidy of my bedroom.
* From 10:30-11:30, I do my reading for class.

# **Sleep Routine**

* I sleep around 11:30 PM.
* I change
* I brush my teeth
* I do a quick facial to make sure my skin is clean
* I do a little bit of journaling
* I pick out my clothes for the next day
* I double check my schedule
* I double check my chores

This routine keeps me grounded.

The reasons I believe this routine is effective can be summarized thus:

* I go through life at my own pace. As a result, I go through life slowly.
* I take time to listen to the world. I believe that most of us do all we can to avoid silence. I sit in silence as often as I can.
* I always prioritize my chores
* I always prioritize my work
* I always prioritize my health
* I always make time for self care
* I always make time for socializing

By prioritizing my life, I find that I can focus on my work.

I have no real tips to offer. I also have no real secrets to share. The only thing I can offer you is go through life at your own pace.

This is my routine. I hope you guys find it interesting.
