Over the last few months, I notice that the same “themes” (topics) keep appearing, which leads me to wonder what justifies the need to share this short lived information.

1. “We went on a trip and here is our budget including receipts.

A. This information can be “good” but also useless, given that prices of food, hotels, etc can change over time.

2. “I’m going on a trip to place “X” and I want to know what to “see”. My wife and I are “40”, have no kids, no pets, and this is going to be our first trip since “Covid”.

A. When I want to travel to a city (I have never visited), I “Google” the city and “take notes” on what I wish to see.

3. “What should I pack for a trip to place “X”?”

A. A quick “Google” search.

4. “Visa requirements for a trip to place “X” (country “Y”).”

A. A quick “Google” search

5. “Best airline to fly from “X” to “Y”.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

6. “Best airport lounge.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

7. “Hotel or Airbnb.”

A. A quick “Google” search

8. “Is it better to take the bus “X”, train “Y”, or rent a car?”

A. A quick “Google” search.

9. “Is it place “X” safe?”

A. A quick “Google” search).

10. “Should we buy a “parking ticket ahead of time?”

A. A quick “Google” search.

11. “Is it better to have a hotel in the center of town “X”, or a ways away from town center.”

A. A quick “Google” search

12. “Restaurant recommendations”.

A. A quick “Google” search.

13. “Is “X” better than “Y”?”

A. A quick “Google” search.

14. “The best way “to and from” the airport.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

15. “Travel insurance.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

16. “The best credit card for travel.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

17. “What happens if place “X” closes.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

18. “If a trip goes longer than “X” is it better to purchase “X”. A quick “Google” search.

19. “Is “X” cheaper than Y.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

20. “Everything you need to know about place “X”.”

A. A quick “Google” search.

I don’t know about most of you, but there are several ways to travel and different people have different budgets.

I also don’t get why anyone wants to know what someone else spent on a trip….. (Some people are just “cheap asses”, and some people enjoy burning money.)

Up until the mid 80’s, I couldn’t travel given I lived in a communist country (Cuba). In the mid 80’s, the Cuban government allowed Cubans to travel freely (without a government official with you, like it was until the mid 80’s) and now I travel as much as I can given I’m retired.

I have used all sorts of conveyance, from walking, to buses, to trains,
to car rentals, to taxis, to Ubers, to hotel car services, to package tours. I have stayed in 5 star hotels, to hostels, to Airbnb’s.

Covid’s lock downs also changed the mechanics of travel and the pandemic is not over. This changing of rules, regulations, prices is on a daily basis and just a few months ago, Canada had rules, regulations, requirements that are presently not required. The same applies for other countries.

So, given the changing of rules, regulations, requirements, I think that the information you need to travel is best obtained by doing a “Google” search.

This is a great sub and I think that the best questions, topics are “stories” of your trip, including photos, scams or pitfalls to avoid, travel tips, etc, etc

Edit:

The best “tool” for travel is “Google,” as all of the information you need to travel is at your hands.

I went to the city “X” and got scammed “Y” years ago. Today, this information is useless.

My wife and I went to place “X” last year and spent “Y” amount of money on food. Today, the food prices may be very different.

My wife and I went to place “X” last year and stayed in hotel “Y” that we loved. Today, this “information” is useless given that “information” is short lived.

Edit 2:

Any information acquired via a “Google” search “today” may not be valid “tomorrow” or in a few hours, so you need to stay on top of changes.

Edit 3:

The cost, time of travel is an important metric but not as important as tips to avoid scams, avoid popular areas, what to see, what not to see, tips on what to visit or not.

Edit 4:

There are so many posts on this sub about “how much did you spend on a trip to place “X” (hotels, food, “Y”, “Z”).” This information is “useless” as prices are constantly changing.

Edit 5:

Any information acquired via a “Google” search “today” may not be valid “tomorrow” or in a few hours, so you need to stay on top “of changing facts.”

Edit 6:

I have not traveled a lot but I have seen a lot of places but I don’t have the knowledge of people that have visited hundreds of cities (particularly in Europe)

Edit 7:

My wife and I are presently in “B” and went to place “X” today. Once we get home, I will post a budget, including receipts, that will not be useful to anyone.

Edit 8:

The cost, time of travel is an important metric but not as important as tips to avoid scams, avoid popular areas, what to see, what not to see, tips on what to visit or not.

Edit 9:

Once you have the basics down, the next step is to read “Trip Advisor”, and “Lonely Planet” as they also provide scams to avoid, ways to save time, money, etc, etc.

Edit 10:

I have traveled quite a bit, in the USA and Europe, since the pandemic but I have never ran into any issues, given I did my research, and always used “Google” as my main tool, besides “Trip Advisor”, and “Lonely Planet”.

Edit 11:

In my case, I always have a “plan B” as things change constantly.

Edit 12:

If you want to know secrets, and get the latest information, “Google” is your friend. “Google” is “free” and there is a lot of information out there.

Edit 13:

I “take notes” on places I want to visit and once I get there I always have a “plan B” as there are always “changes.”

Edit 14:

My wife and I just visited “X” and noticed that “Y” was closed.
