My dad saved me from a potential kidnapper when I was a kid

One time when I was about 12 and my brother (who’s 2 years older than me) were playing in a park near our house when this tall, slim built dude with black hair came over to where we were playing and started talking to us. I don’t remember what he said but I remember him asking us if we wanted to walk with him, I think he told us he had candy or something. I don’t know if he was being sincere or not but something about him just made me feel uncomfortable and I didn’t want to go with him. But my brother seemed to be entertaining the idea all too happily and was agreeing to go with the dude. When I saw my brother was about to follow this stranger, my fight or flight response kicked in to overdrive and I knew I had to protect my brother and myself.

I grabbed my brother’s arm and I told him that we had to go home now, that I wasn’t feeling well and I just wanted to go home. So we started walking away from the dude but he kept calling out to us, saying stuff like ‘Oh, come on! Don’t be like that. Let’s be buddies’. Anyways, me and my brother keep walking until we get to the street we live on and I see my dad standing in front of the house we were renting at the time, talking to one of our neighbors. I got so happy when I saw him and ran to him, hug his waist and don’t let go. My dad was like ‘Hey buddy, what’s wrong? Why you so upset’ and when he saw the look on my face, he knew something had to be wrong.

I told him ‘There was a guy back there who was trying to get us to go with him and I didn’t like him, I didn’t want to go with him, but my brother was gonna go’ and my dad just gave me this look of like, utter terror and he told me and my brother to stay with our neighbor while he went back to where we were at in the park. I saw him walk off in the direction of the park while looking over his shoulder at us. I don’t know what happened after that because I wasn’t there but from what my dad told me, he couldn’t find the dude anywhere. But I remember for a while after that, I would think that I saw the dude around. Like I would be riding in the car and I would see this one dude with black hair and I would be like ‘Oh my god, that’s the dude from the other day’ but when the dude would turn around, it wouldn’t be him. I don’t know if maybe my dad scared the dude off but yeah, dad probably saved us from potential abduction.

Sorry if this story was boring and not that eventful, I just wanted to express my gratitude to my dad and let people know that the dangers of potential abduction are real and you need to be careful about who you talk to when you’re out and about.
